beautifully decorated restaurant on the first floor of four seasons! the food here is solid. we ordered a couple appetizers to start, and my favorite was the hiramasa tatare which went perfectly with the potato chips. the salmon crudo was mid, i would not order it again. for my main, i had the swordfish milanese sandwich which was absolutely delicious and filling. i was pleasantly surprised by the size, it definitely could have been two meals. my friends ordered the branzino and the yellowfin tuna rice bowl which they enjoyed (though the portion size wasn't as large). all the seafood tasted quite fresh! one thing to keep in mind is that in the summer, this restaurant is absolutely freezing. i got there early and had to ask my friend who was running late to grab me one of her jackets because i was so cold i had goosebumps. definitely bring a jacket! service was alright, but we were celebrating a birthday, and there were some discrepancies between what we were told over the phone vs what were told in person. this restaurant is definitely quite expensive, and for the price, i would have expected more overall. the food is good, but not particularly exciting. i think there are more affordable places with food just as delicious.
This was probably the best dining experience I've had in Philly for quite some time. The food was fantastic, drinks were on point and the people that work there are top notch. We had an issue with one dish and the took it very seriously, got the manager involved, refunded it. Just one slip, well recovered. They have better seafood than any restaurant I've had in the US to date.
Excellent for seafood lovers. Their fish was very fresh, high quality, very delicious. The service was beyond excellent. The venue was high ceiling, very contemporary, open kitchen, lots of tall fresh orchids and flowers, fancy at the Four Seasons, very pretty. I was shocked that their kids menu was very tasty as well. They use Le Must Classic chef ketchup, very luxurious like everything else. The whole dining experience was spectacular.
Vernick Fish is my favorite restaurant in Philadelphia. The restaurant has wonderful birds- eye views of the city and the atmosphere has a modern yet upscale feel. We went in without a reservation on a weeknight and were able to be seated at the bar relatively quickly. The bartender was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave great recommendations. The swordfish katsu was one of the most unique and delicious seafood dishes I have ever had. The scallops were also amazing with a great sear on them. I would highly recommend dining at this place. It's great for celebrating a special occasion!
I stopped by after work with some colleagues just for a drink after trying to go to JG sky high upstairs which was really busy. We snagged a comfy couch and chairs right when it opened, and ordered delicious cocktails. Everything we got was refreshing, bright and flavorful! Our server was great and I loved the atmosphere. I'd definitely come back again!
We loved it here. Me and my girlfriend spent our birthdays here. It was a beautiful spot attached to the Fourseason hotel with a wonderful cocktail bar upstairs to visit before or after dinner. What a great location, vibe and restaurant we began our meal with caviar over tuna tartare, which was on unbelievable. Another must recommendation is the octopus!!! We are still talking about it. Top notch restaurant- one of the few nicest places in the city to dine. Absolutely will return.
Dinner at the original Vernick is to this day one of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. I don't live in Philly anymore, but anytime I visit I make sure to go out in the city at least once. As soon as Vernick Fish opened, it shot up to the top of my list, but we had to wait for the right occasion to present itself. The family was visiting home for a holiday this past weekend so my parents made a reservation for the five us. Everything about Vernick Fish exudes elegance, from its location in the Four Seasons to the sprawling space, to the ultra refined cuisine. This is a seafood lover's dream, though in a real dream there would be no check to pay. We came here at 8pm as a party of 5 on a Saturday night. I live in New York, so I'm used to dining in restaurants that are the size of a shoebox or two. Walking back through the Four Seasons you'll find yourself in a tastefully glamorous space, with high ceilings, beautiful and modern light fixtures, and a long, exposed kitchen. We sat with our menus for a bit too long before someone finally came over to take our order, which meant a lot of time for deliberation (which for me just looks like maniacally going back and forth between 2-3 drinks because my brain makes it a life or death deicision. I ended up going with the Primavera Sour (banhez mezcal, hayman's old tom gin, thai basil, lemon) which is unlike me because I tend to prefer spirit-forward drinks, but this one felt like a solid one to start with. Part of my concern with going for sours is that I worry they'll be too sweet, but this was barely sweet and more herbal/citrusy, which was a nice surprise. Even those of our party who ordered tropical-looking drinks commented that they weren't as sweet as those types of drink tend to be. I then got a glass of wine, the Fitapreta (indigenous grape blend, Alentejo, Portugal), which was fantastic and a favorite at our table. Dining with a large group is always fun for me because I get to try more. For this meal, my husband and I split a bunch of stuff just between us but we also got to try a few veggie dishes that were ordered for the table. As a lover of seafood it was pretty challenging to narrow down our options because everything here looks so good. Eats, below: Hiramasa Crudo w/ grilled pineapple, jalapeño, mint: A Light and delicious, faintly tropical flavors, a little fruity and just a teeny bit spicy. Sea Bream Crudo w/ avocado, white grapefruit A+ This was recommended by our server and several of us ended up ordering it after hearing his high marks. The complete bite with all components is just masterful, this coming from someone who tends not to enjoy citrus. Endive & Baby Gem salad w/ tarragon vinaigrette: A- The least exciting dish of the night but we wanted to get our veggie fix. If I could do it over I just would've stuck with the veggie sides because they were both excellent. This was still very good, just not memorable. Crispy Octopus w/ lemongrass aioli, cucumber, cilantro: A+ Probably a tie with the sea bream for our favorite dish of the night. The octopus was just slightly crispy, something about the texture and flavor lent by the crispiness went so perfectly with the lemongrass aioli. Light but also rich and savory, somehow. Grilled Broccolini w/ romesco, ajo blanco, lemon zest: A+ Broccolini is definitely one of my favorite veggies. Overall just a fantastic blend of textures and flavors. Asparagus w/ pine nut & arugula pesto, sorrel: A Another delicious veg with a nice earthiness coming from the pesto and sorrel. Grilled Black Sea Bass w/ kimchi broth, soy marinated egg, daikon, pea leaves: A Black sea bass with Asian-inspired flavors is always a win for me. Like the octopus, this dish was both light and savory, with delicate flavors that highlighted the fish.
One of my favorite restaurants in Philly. It has absolutely delicious seafood options and every bite is thought out perfectly by the chef. The inside is beautifully decorated too. When I made a reservation here, I could only get a spot at the bar. Do not be strayed away because the bar seating was awesome. We got to watch the chefs at work - shucking oysters, etc. If you are dining for 2, this is a great option. The waitress had a wonderful suggestion for our wine too. It paired perfectly with the dishes we selected. Looking forward to coming back here when I am in town again!
This was the top meal I've had thus far in 2024. For starters, the ambience was sexy and trendy, without being over the top. The music selection and lighting were a perfect backdrop to dinner. My server, Corey, was patience and offered excellent recommendations. It's always a positive when your server is excited about the food he's presenting. The food: AMAZING. Scallops were divine. Meaty, sweet, with the perfect crust. The broiled oysters were a flavor bomb. 6 was just right, but I could've had a dozen more. The jerk marinated red snapper entree was absolutely delectable. Salty, crispy, spice, and umami all in one dish. The smoked Hollandaise and truffle combined with the fingerling Potatoes was heavenly. The South Hampton iced tea was one of the most unique cocktails I've ever tasted. Even the dessert, dark chocolate sorbet, was decadent and rich in flavor. Needless to say, whenever I'm in Philly, I'll be back. Hats off to the staff.
My family and I joined Vernick for Thanksgiving this year, which was a fantastic decision! The restaurant is lively and festive, without being loud or overwhelming. We had a reservation for a high top, but were able to get a seat in the dining room, which was great. Our waiter was perfect from start to finish. He was friendly, knew the menu very well, and even threw in some free desserts when they were out of the desserts we initially wanted. The food, of course, was exquisite. I had the salt and pepper octopus, hiramasa crudo, and jerk marinated fried snapper. Thanks Vernick for being a wonderful place to celebrate Thanksgiving!
